We are learning that virtually all disease starts in our guts. Stress and poor diet as well as our alcohol and coffee habits affect our gut health. Sugar is a major culprit of irritating our gut lining. Kombucha, a probiotic tea, has become wildly popular but feeds on sugar. Kombucha brands have been telling us for years that the sugar is virtually all consumed in the fermentation process, yet we are learning that this is frequently not the case and we have been ingesting close to double the amount of sugar listed on the label. Even if it were virtually all consumed virtually is not enough. Not all sugars are created equal.
Double Mission is developing a sparkling superfood probiotic Jun tea. Jun (rhymes with fun!) is a SCOBY (symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast) somewhat similar to kombucha. However Jun feeds off of raw honey exclusively. While calorically the same, honey breaks down slower than sugar, is incredibly high in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and actually aids in repairing the gut. Double Mission will be crafted with organic, Fair Trade raw honey, fruit, spices, herbs and whole leaf tea as an alternative to soda, a healthy mixer, a post-yoga pick me up, a preflight immunity booster, a hangover redemption cure and a chill elixir.
